The Hullbridge U3A Singing for Fun Group

Monthly Report by Roy Simmons

Singing for Fun, Come and join in

I understand that there are members who wish to revive the Singing for Fun Group.  If you do, please contact the Groups Co-ordinator providing your name, e-mail address, and telephone number.

I will be at the General Meeting on the 19th May and will be in the bar at the Commie afterwards from 15:15 hrs to discuss how this group can be revived for those of you that are interested.

The original group ran as follows:-

The room in which we met depended on the numbers attending in order to achieve as much social spacing as is practical.  I am told that singing is good for your health, particularly your breathing, and general wellbeing, so how about giving it a go?

We sing all types of music which are primarily selected by members of the group.

We do a little warm-up with breathing exercises for the first 15 minutes and then it is straight into the singing.  There are no solos or auditions.  We sing to the accompaniment of a CD, but there is a Keyboard available.  Each member has song sheets containing the lyrics for some 69 Songs and 15 Christmas Carols.

We typically had Twelve Song Birds attending.  We sang eighteen songs from our now extended Songbook.

We used to meet in the Family Room of the Community Centre at 2:00pm on the 4th Thursday of the month, and this slot is still available at £20 for the 2 hours, so the Attendance Fee will be dependent on the number of people attending each meeting. There was an additional charge for the printing of the song sheets.

I look forward to discussing this with you on 19th May to establish if it’s feasible to restart this group.  If you are unable to attend that day you will have no say in the setting up, but would be welcome to join  later providing adequate numbers ‘sign up’.

Best regards

Roy Simmons (facilitator)
